Creating a Great Office Space on a Budget
64Even in the current economic situations some companies are growing and finding themselves in the position where they have to consider creating an office space. However, though they are doing well, they know that new office furniture and equipment can be an expense, and the expense has to be carefully considered and getting inexpensive office furniture can be an option. So, when purchasing office furniture there are some things that need to be taken into account.
Don't Buy Furniture Because It's Inexpensive
Sure, there are sixty nine dollar desk chairs and one hundred and forty nine dollar desks available, and that low dollar expenditure may look good in the budget, but another thing that needs considered is that poorly made office furniture may hinder production. Too often people are seduced by a shiny veneer over pressed particle board, but what looks good today can become an issue in few weeks. Time spent repairing a broken desk drawer or chair leg is time taken away from money making activities.
Liquidators Rule
Often failed corporations have huge office furniture inventories and the furniture is sold off along with other assets. There are office furniture suppliers who will buy the entire furniture inventory for a lump sum and then offer the furniture item by item to buyers who may want one item or want to furnish multiple office spaces. These office liquidators can have furniture in multiple levels of quality available, and the used furniture may be available at a fraction of the original cost.
To Cube Or Not To Cube, That Is The Question
Individual office space may not be feasible, but office noise can become a production hindrance in low wall cubicles. They may work if there is not a lot of phone conversations or if the employee carries on their communications electronically, but if they are using the phone or interviewing people in person privacy is important. If individual offices are not an option, then consider high wall cubicles. Movable cubicle walls can be purchased from three feet up to ceiling levels and the taller ones can be purchased with windows and doors. Though they may not be the perfect solution the noise reducing walls will provide sufficient privacy for phone conversations to be held without interfering with other employees.
Be Smart, Shop Smart
Companies that are successful in this economy, and that are finding themselves in position to expand, are doing so because of smart business decisions. And one smart business decision is thinking through and planning any expansion that includes either buying new furniture or used office chairs, desks and other office furniture. Part of the planning should always include a sensible budget when office furniture is needed, and that means buying what is needed but not more than is necessary.
